Weight in perimenopause follows different rules
The same diet that used to work can stall. Energy, cravings, and how clothes fit usually shift before the scale does — and a plateau is not a failure of yours.
Nothing changed. The middle still did.
Estrogen and insulin talk to each other. When hormones swing, the body holds more around the middle even when the meals did not. Sleep, water, and a luteal week all move the number on the scale. “Eat less, move more” was built for a different metabolism. Doubling restriction usually backfires: louder cravings, worse sleep, less muscle.
The scale is a lagging signal
Energy, how clothes fit, and whether the afternoon crash eased usually shift first. A two- to three-week stall is common in this stage. Muscle can rise while the number stays still. Water from a luteal week is not fat. If you treat every uptick as a failed diet, you will keep cutting the breakfast that was protecting 3pm.
What to do instead of another cut
Keep breakfast warm and balanced. Vegetables and protein before starch at the biggest meal, then a ten-minute walk. Short strength or mobility sessions still count — muscle is metabolic and protective as estrogen swings. Protect sleep before you cut more food. Poor sleep raises hunger the next day more than one extra serving did.
